Kelly Young, better known as the Rheumatoid Arthritis Warrior, blogs about the need for more awareness and better information regarding Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).' Kelly was motivated by a recent article by Kathy Lubbers, Newt Gingrich's daughter who has had RA for more than 20 years, in which Kathy, when diagnosed with RA instead of the suspected Lupus, said she "was thrilled!' While painful, RA is an easier disease to deal with on a day-to-day basis."' The RA Warrior makes clear that her post is not "about whether Lupus is a terrible disease or not."' All chronic and painful diseases are terrible.' Rather, this post battles the media's minimization of RA sufferers' pain and inaccurate reporting about RA in general.
On Diabetes Mine, Amy Tendrich interviews singer Nikki Lang (daughter of Hollywood producer and diabetes advocate Rocky Lang) who is 18 and was diagnosed with diabetes at age 10.' She's used a Medtronic Minimed insulin pump since she was 11, but doesn't view her diagnosis as an obstacle.' Her approach to managing her disease is simple: "Keep your head up, a cure is coming. But in the meantime just live your life normally and stay healthy." ' In addition to recording and touring, she is involved with the American Diabetes Association's 'Stop Diabetes' campaign.' You can download her title song, 'Feel Better' from iTunes where, through the end of the year, 100% of the downloads' proceeds will be donated to the ADA.
