SPOTLIGHT
ON RESOURCES
Although it’s graduation time for many HABIT readers, others may
be planning their next educational steps to update their skills or branch
off into a new career. This month’s spotlight offers a good place
to start looking for the perfect academic program. The continuously updated
online Directory of Training Programs from AcademyHealth contains information
about U.S. and some international post-baccalaureate certificates, master’s,
doctoral and post-doctoral programs in health services research and health
policy.
The directory is searchable by state or Canadian province and type of
degree, and each program profiled has a short description of its objectives
and focus, senior faculty and their primary research interests, application
requirements and whether the program includes night, summer or distance
learning options. The directory also breaks down information on financial
aid into loans, fellowships, assistantships and other sources of aid.
Institutions can use the page to submit information about their own programs.

The American Public Health
Association has launched a Web site about health disparities interventions
by public health workers. The Health
Disparities Community Solutions Database contains information on specific
interventions like environmental justice and health literacy as well
as general community health, and is searchable by ethnic or racial group
and age groups from infants to seniors. The site also has a link to a “toolkit” useful
for evaluating disparities interventions. To search the database, go here.
