Dear Colleagues,
Interest in health behavior expertise seemed to heat up over the summer -- along with most of the East Coast and a number of forests in the West.
Whether it is due to a slacker economy or uncertainty about impending war, we are detecting a growing interest in making better and quicker use of research findings to improve health outcomes. With this comes greater acceptance of the notion that behavior -- individual, professional and institutional -- matters in making use of information to improve practice and policy.
This change signals opportunities for health behavior researchers and clinicians. In large part, they are opportunities to put existing skills to use doing new things -- or doing old things differently. Take a look at this sampling of things that have come our way over the summer; you'll see what we mean.
Hope September gets off to a running start for you.
Cheers --
Jessie Gruman, PhD
P.S. Congratulations to Norman Anderson, a leader in health behavior change and former director of the Office of Behavioral and Social Science Research, who is Chief Executive Officer Designate of the American Psychological Association. We look forward to his confirmation, and to his productive and creative leadership in this important position!
