SPOTLIGHT ON RESOURCES

If what you want is practical information on chronic disease prevention and health promotion programs, and you have learned to hate databases that only provide reams of journal abstracts, here's something you should know about: the Chronic Disease Prevention Databases Web site, www.cdc.gov/cdp.

Launched in September 2001 by the CDC's Technical Information and Editorial Services Branch, the site features bibliographic databases in four areas:

* Health Promotion and Education
* Cancer Prevention and Control
* Prenatal Smoking Cessation
* Epilepsy Education and Prevention Activities
A fifth database provides access to publications authored by National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion staff since 1988.

The databases provide abstracts and citations for a wide range of materials, including monographs, journal articles, book chapters, reports and fact sheets. Descriptions of chronic disease prevention and health promotion programs are also included.

And here's one of the best features: full text is provided for selected publications.
