University of Pittsburgh's Leadership Summit on Minority Health

In January 2002, Scholars attended the University of Pittsburgh's Leadership Summit on Minority Health. The Summit brought together leaders and scholars to gain a better understanding of the issues related to racial and ethnic health disparities and to devise an action plan that includes research and community involvement.

2001-2003 Scholars in Health Disparities Orientation

The 2001-2002 Scholars in Health Disparities orientation took place September 24-27, 2001, in Washington, DC. The orientation covered a wide range of topics from general introductions about each other and the program, to sessions on how research can inform the policy-making process, getting research funded and published, and becoming skilled "scholar activists." Special highlights included a workshop at NIH organized by Raynard Kington and a series of Hill meetings including a congressional briefing and reception with Reps. Danny Davis and Bobby Scott of the Congressional Black Caucus. In all, more than 30 speakers shared their insights and experiences with the Scholars.
