More Questions About Medical Tests

On the Harvard Health Blog, P.J. Skerrett, editor of the Harvard Heart Letter, argues 'more does not equal better' in health care. He describes a 52-year-old woman's experience cited in the Archives of Internal Medicine. She went into a community hospital for chest pain and came out requiring a heart transplant after a cascade of testing starting with a CT scan to 'reassure her' that she was okay.

The Wall Street Journal article, Worried About Cholesterol? Order Your Own Tests, describes an individual who orders tests online in order to avoid high deductibles of visiting the doctor. Doctors caution which online companies to trust and how to interpret individual test results on their own.
